Dunbar Events

In 2023, Dunbar Middle School was the recipient of the Disney Broadway Jr. Grant with performance licenses to produce shows from our Broadway Junior catalog, free of charge! Dunbar students performed Once on This Island for families, staff and students in May 2024. In 2025, Dunbar performed Newsies. We are excited that we are another year of this grant and and will be performing a new musical in the 2026!!

Students participated in a school program in partnerships with CEI (Center for Educational Innovation). Teaching Artists from CEI worked alongside classroom teachers to deliver a robust visual arts curriculum that addresses contemporary social issues. This includes visits with distinguished and world renowned Guest Artists, and culminates in the creation and public display of meaningful, issue-based works of art on benches in all five boroughs. The program culminated in a students created a bench that is displayed in the school lobby.
